X-Ray and caffenol
Recently I am photographing with an 8x10 camera. A lovely heavy beast that requires a relatively expensive sheet film. I enjoy using it and have been actively seeking economical ways to make this camera usable every week. One thing that Large Format photographers have been using instead of the costly film is X-Ray film. It comes in most sizes, commonly in 8x10. So a readymade orthochromatic medium that can be used cheaply! The problem - there are no specifications for using it as a photographic film. So a bit of experimentation is required.
The main problem is developer and development time. After a few well made-hits, I stumbled across a Flickr user experimenting with Caffenol. It should yield even negatives. Didn't work for me. The recipes for caffenol can be found at caffenol.blogspot.com.
I stick with diluted Adox for now.
