Chaotic Hong Kong

Chaotic, loud, and orderly: this is how a day in the megacity of Hong Kong appears. I was looking and seeing the bustling rhythm of daily life in the city for some years.

Living in Hong Kong for a couple of years, I found myself fascinated by the city's energy and the different parts from the Outlying Islands to Hong Kong Island to Kowloon. There was so much to discover, and it gave me time for many days in the streets and alleys.

I wanted to find moments within this mass of impressions and discover the city with my camera. My approach was to document what was unfolding from the early morning hours until late at night. It was vital for me to accumulate photos of everyday situations. I wanted to plunge deep into everything going on and document the spirit and the people on the streets of Hong Kong.

For me, it's about working with what the city created in front of me. In using those split seconds as significant situations emerged directly in front of me. To look for those bits of time, which are difficult to foretell, and find exciting themes in the process, is always an exciting task and an all-embracing challenge.

Hong Kong is constantly moving and changing. Chaotic, loud, and yet still orderly. The volume of people within this city and how it works collectively is engaging. At the same time, it can quickly lead to an enormous neural overload. There is an incredible dynamism and power in this city that never appears to sleep. However, if you take a closer look, you can also find very peaceful and tranquil moments.
